President Joe Biden signed a bill into law this week that counters the growing soft-on-crime policies that so many Democrat-led cities abide by. The move stunned members of his own party.
According to the Daily Caller, Biden on Monday signed a Republican-led piece of legislation that counters a Washington D.C. crime bill that would have led to lower penalties for criminals.
The Washington D.C.-led “Council’s Revised Criminal Code Act of 2022” softens penalties for serious offenses such as robberies and carjackings, among other crimes that run rampant in the blue city.
Previously, the president had said that he still supports D.C. statehood, but said he wouldn’t support any measure that makes it easier for criminals to be criminals.
Safety first
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters this week that Biden’s objective in signing the legislation into law is to put “the safety of the people of D.C. first.”
It’s the least he could do to prevent future crime spikes in the nation’s capital city, which has morphed from what was once a wonderful and beautiful city to a crime den of drug use, homelessness, and prostitution.
“Today, President Biden signed House Republicans’ resolution to overturn DC’s soft-on-crime bill. Turns out woke policies like giving criminals increased leniency are not popular with the American people nor do anything to make our communities safer,” the House Oversight Committee tweeted Monday.

Giving credit where credit is due, Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser, who is otherwise a trainwreck of a mayor, also vetoed the bill.
However, the woke, pro-crime Washington D.C. City Council overrode the mayor’s veto.
Republicans celebrate
Thankfully, the District Clause of the Constitution provides Congress the power to override all legislation in Washington D.C.
According to the New York Post, Republicans celebrated the welcome development.
“President Biden officially signed my bipartisan resolution to block the D.C. Council’s dangerous overhaul of Washington’s criminal code into law,” Representative Andrew Clyde (R-GA) tweeted Monday.
Certainly, as the political winds shift as the 2024 election draws near, one shouldn’t be surprised to watch Biden and his administration scramble to make a dash back toward the center. However, according to polls, it’s still probably too late, as the damage of his policies has already been inflicted in a significant way across the country.
