A veteran attorney who has represented former President Donald Trump says Trump is right to be concerned about a possible criminal indictment in the short-term, but not the long-term.
“There are two systems of justice in the United States and our justice system is in deep trouble,” Alan Dershowitz told Fox News Channel Friday.
Dershowitz, who served as Trump’s attorney during his first impeachment trial, accused New York authorities of creating “a special system of justice” especially to get Trump arrested.

“They rummaged for years to try to find something. They gave immunity to witnesses. They couldn’t find a real statute, so they put statutes together,” Dershowitz added.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social account Saturday that he expects to be arrested Tuesday.
Mediaite reports the Manhattan District Attorney’s office is examining whether Trump broke the law by falsifying business records about a $130,000 payment to porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election. The payment has been labeled “hush money” for an adulterous affair, which Trump saysnever happened.

Dershowitz indicated the overall bar for criminal justice in New York is very low.
“In New York… you can indict a ham sandwich,” he claimed. “But in New York, you can also convict a ham sandwich because the jury pool will be very much against Trump and the judges will be very much against Trump.”

Dershowitz repeated the sandwich comparison Sunday on Newsmax, according to Newsweek. But he added Trump likely would win an appeal of any conviction and still could run for President.
“He can even serve as president from prison.” Dershowitz said.
