A “transgender woman” who’s the “mother” of two “transgender and gender-expansive children” went to bat for so-called “trans refuge” legislation in front of Minnesota lawmakers last week.
The individual — who goes by Amber — told the state House Judiciary and Civil Law Committee last Tuesday, “I am … a proud transgender woman. But more importantly, I am the mother of two wonderful transgender and gender-expansive children.”
Amber complained of legislation being pushed that would interfere in gender-mutilation medical care — particularly for children.
“My transgender partner and I frequently discuss plans to flee the country if these targeted, hateful bills keep being introduced or passed,” Amber added to the committee.
According Democrat state Representative Leigh Finke — author of House File 146 — the legislation would “turn Minnesota into a transgender refuge state by protecting transgender people, their families, and medical practitioners from legal repercussions for traveling to Minnesota to receive gender-mutilation care.”
Finke added that “trans people of all ages depend on gender-mutilation care, which encompasses a wide range of social and medical interventions to affirm someone’s internal gender identity, including puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, permanent hair removal, voice therapy, and surgical interventions.”
Amber also testified about not feeling “100 percent safe” alongside the “torrent of damaging, ill-informed, and outright malicious legislation being introduced across the country.”
“As someone who started transitioning well into her adulthood, I know better than most how essential and life-saving gender-mutilation medical care is,” Amber said, adding that “I am so grateful that transgender and gender-expansive kids have access to the knowledge and medical care to be their full selves and thrive. To not only deny them life-saving medical care but to charge and prosecute supportive parents and health care professionals is barbaric and morally repugnant.”

Anything else?
Earlier in January, Democrat Minnesota state Representative Sandra Feist — arguing against an amendment to her “Menstrual Equity Bill” that would provide funding for menstrual products in all student restrooms — told fellow legislators that “not all students who menstruate are female.”
