Ted Cruz declares Grammys ‘evil’ after Sam Smith’s Satan-themed performance – CBS ‘ready to worship’

Sunday’s Grammy Awards were a memorable night of celebrities cheering on blasphemous and satanic performances, as one in particular left Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) remarking, “This…is…evil.”

The 65th Grammy Awards hosted by Trevor Noah was broadcast from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California Sunday night and truly leaned into the more vile proclivities of self-adulating elites. With a performance of their best pop duo/group performance-winning song “Unholy,” Sam Smith and Kim Petras could just as easily have won any number of honors from most corrupting to profane.

The blood red show with fire in the background and BDSM themes featured a horned Smith, who considers himself non-binary, and a caged Petras, who underwent gender mutilation surgery at 16 and considers himself a woman.

As podcast host Liz Wheeler put it sharing a clip of the act, “Don’t fight the culture wars, they say. Meanwhile demons are teaching your kids to worship Satan. I could throw up.” Cruz quote tweeted her post with his own succinct caption, “This…is…evil.”

They were far from alone in calling out the disturbed display as commentator Robby Starbuck wrote, “People like Sam Smith who love to mock Christianity and use Satanic themes always think they’re super edgy artists by doing it. In reality it’s not edgy. It’s boring, vile, rehashed shock tactics that Hollywood seals clap for because they’re evil & stupid.”

Meanwhile, Ian Miles Cheong pointed out the song lyrics include Smith praising designer brand Balenciaga which was embroiled in its own controversy for depicting children juxtaposed with BDSM and containing Easter eggs of graphic art in a suspended ad campaign.

“Mmm, daddy, daddy, if you want it, drop the add’y (yuh) Give me love, give me Fendi, my Balenciaga daddy…”

CBS, the network that has hosted the event for 50 years, seemed all too excited about the prospect of a Satan-worshipping performance as, after Smith teased the upcoming exhibition earlier Sunday, they responded to a post from the artist stating, “This is going to be SPECIAL” by writing “…you can say that again. We are ready to worship!”

For his part, Petras was not shy about his positions as he made an argument against religion, telling the press after the show, “I think a lot of people, honestly, have kind of labeled what I stand for and what Sam stands for as religiously not cool.”

“I personally grew up wondering about religion and wanting to be a part of it, but then slowly realizing it doesn’t want me to be a part of it,” he went on. “So it’s a take on not being able to choose religion and not being able to live the way that people might want you to live, because, you know, as a transgender person, I’m kind of already not wanted in religion.”

In addition to the satanic performance from Smith and Petras, performers Hov, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, John Legend, Friday, JAY-Z and DJ Khaled gathered at a table designed to look like the Last Supper to perform Khaled’s “God Did.”

Invoking a sentiment similar to Wheeler’s, Starbuck went on to suggest Monday, “Conservatives: If you’re disgusted by all the evil we see in ‘entertainment’ today then go spend money supporting an artist or creator that’s conservative and if you’re wealthy, invest in new entertainment. You will never win a culture war without investing in culture.”
