Seventy-two-year-old Dr. Phil McGraw, known to the world as Dr. Phil, has decided reportedly to pack it in after 21 years of hosting his own controversial daytime talk show, according to an announcement made Tuesday.
Sources at CBS told The Daily Mail that the decision to put down the mic came from McGraw and not the network. According to Variety, he allegedly is hoping to make the leap to an evening primetime show.
The entertainment publication reported that CBS hopes to continue airing “Dr. Phil” in syndication with packaged repeats through the 2023-24 season.

“I have been blessed with over 25 wonderful years in daytime television,”McGraw said in a statement reported by Variety. “With this show, we have helped thousands of guests and millions of viewers through everything from addiction and marriage to mental wellness and raising children.”
McGraw is well known among conservative circles for his progressive opinions though he drew criticism for hosting The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh on his show in a segment that made its way into Walsh’s documentary ‘What Is A Woman?‘
Pro-Life activist Lila Rose also took McGraw to task on the concept that life begins at conception in a November 2022 appearance.
According to NBC News, McGraw plans to announce a “prime-time partnership” that will launch in 2024. Steve LoCascio, the president of CBS Media Ventures, said in a statement “While his show may be ending after 21 years, I’m happy to say our relationship is not.”
Dr. Phil McGraw was a licensed psychologist in the state of Texas where he practiced clinical psychology until moving to California to launch “Dr. Phil,” according to his website, having earned his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the University of North Texas, followed by a post-doctoral fellowship in forensic psychology from the Wilmington Institute. He gained national recognition following a series of appearances on the Oprah Winfrey show during the 1990s.
