President Joe Biden seems to hold the belief that his grandfather may have been consumed by cannibals during World War II. Addressing the press on Wednesday, Biden discussed his grandfather, Ambrose Finnegan.
“He was shot down, he was in the Army Air Corps before there was any Air Force,” the president said.
He went on:
“He flew single engine planes, reconnaissance flights over New Guinea. He volunteered because someone couldn’t make it. He got shot down in an area where there were a lot of cannibals at the time.”
Biden went on, “They never recovered his body. But the government went back and checked and found parts of the plane.”
A 1944 article described the event in which Finnegan was named as a passenger on a plane that crashed, not due to enemy fire. Furthermore, the origins of Biden’s statement about “many cannibals” were unclear, as was the reason for its inclusion in the narrative.
