Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-GA, ratcheted up the tension with House Speaker Mike Johnson (RLA) in an interview on Steve Bannon’s podcast. Her comments are the latest in a growing feud between Marjorie Taylor Greene and House Speaker Mike Johnson over foreign aid.
Conversations focused on sending more aid to Ukraine, as part of an assistance package for Israel following its attack by Iran on Saturday. Bannon asked Greene if she had seen proof of Speaker Johnson’s concern about “the Balkans and Poland falling into a third-world war”.
Greene replied by saying she and others “have never been shown anything. No evidence whatsoever that Vladimir Putin is planning to march across Europe.”
Steve, I stood up at a conference earlier this week and asked for proof. “Where is the proof?” I asked. No one in the room could answer my question: “Has anyone seen proof that Putin will do this?” Nobody said anything, but one congressman came to me and told me that there was no proof. They never provide proof. They pull men in like Mike Johnson and tell them that if they don’t do something, they will die. If you don’t send the money to Ukraine, or if they don’t take these votes, they won’t make it happen. Every day, people die in America. These are the people who should be important. “Our actions in Congress to protect these people should be done.”
Bannon went on to confirm that Rep. Mike McCaul, who had been supporting the aid for Ukraine, was unable to show proof that Putin could start World War III. Greene responded, challenging McCaul and Johnson with proof that Putin planned to attack Poland after he took over Ukraine. She promised to not only lead the charge against Speaker Johnson but also those who follow him and continue to push this agenda.
Greene stated, “America First is our goal.” Steve, from now on we will demand this of our Republican leaders. I don’t mind if the Speaker’s office turns into a revolving door. “If that’s what is needed, let it happen.”
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene chimes in on the debate over foreign aid and threatens to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson.

Speaker Johnson is trying to strike a balance between the conservative and moderate wings of Republican leadership. Johnson has found it difficult to get bills on foreign aid through the House. He is now seeking the help of Democratic legislators. He is using a strategy that involves presenting one bill per country that may receive U.S. assistance.
Amid all the commotion, there was a supposed threat that Johnson would be removed as Speaker of the House. There are good reasons to think that this move will not be as successful as the one to remove former Speaker Kevin McCarthy from his position. Here is a summary of the solution.
Today, I believe a major Rubicon was crossed. Three members of the House Rules Committee threaten the Speaker with a vacate motion. This motion will not be heard because, unlike McCarthy, the Democrats are going to vote in support of Johnson.
This revolt of members who were admitted into the sanctum sacrum of the House will probably not be forgotten.
Johnson was the architect behind the deal which gave the Freedom Caucus 3 seats on the Rules Committee. Johnson is more than likely to return to the past and replace them with loyalists after this fiasco.
Those who wish to continue sending money from taxpayers to other countries after the conflict is over will likely get their way.
