Six people were killed and three were left injured on Saturday when a bus collided head-on with a freight truck in upstate New York.
The accident took place on State Highway 37 in Louisville, a town just south of the United Canadian border, at about 6am.
There were 15 people on the bus and one person in the truck. The highway was shut down for twelve hours as police investigated the accident, which they described as ‘gruesome.’
As of Saturday, one is in critical condition, meanwhile, two are in serious condition, according to police.
It has not been confirmed which vehicle collided with which.
The Penske box truck was reportedly full and the bus appeared to be a LBFNY shuttle bus, a New York based solar company.
Multiple people involved in the accident did not speak english, according to 7 News.
St. Lawrence County Emergency Services Director Matt Denner said, “Everybody worked really good together. Everybody was on the same page. But like I said it was a very difficult scene for everyone there.”
“We had ambulances from Potsdam from Canton, Ogdensburg, Norfork. We were not lacking transporting agencies or EMTS,” he continued.
Road conditions were icy and visibility was low at the time of the crash.
