A suspected terrorist attack has occurred Friday evening at a concert hall in Moscow, when multiple gunmen opened fire on concert-goers. In early reports, at least 40 fatalities were reported, but that number is expected to rise, as the building is now burning in a massive inferno.
The Associated Press reported:
Russia’s Federal Security Service said 40 people died and more than 100 were wounded in an attack Friday at a Moscow concert hall.
The attack, which Russian authorities are investigating as terrorism, is the deadliest in Russia in recent years.
Several gunmen burst into the concert hall on the edge of Moscow and sprayed visitors with automatic gunfire, killing and wounding dozens and starting a massive blaze. Russian media reported that the venue’s roof was collapsing.
The Moscow Times reported:
A video shared online showed at least two masked men entering the Crocus City Hall, with one repeatedly firing shots from what appeared to be a A̶s̶s̶a̶u̶l̶t Defense Rifle. Another graphic video showed four men, with at least three carrying weapons, chasing a group of people and firing at them point blank.
Footage published by the state-run TASS news agency showed a large fire at Crocus City Hall, which is located around 16 kilometers northwest of the center of Moscow.
The U.S. Embassy had issued a warning to Moscow on March 7, which specifically stated, “The Embassy is monitoring reports that extremists have imminent plans to target large gatherings in Moscow, to include concerts, and U.S. citizens should be advised to avoid large gatherings over the next 48 hours.”
U.S. Embassy in Moscow put this out on March 7. Clearly they picked up signals intel about something being planned and they’ll have even passed it onto the Russians as a matter of American law re: duty to inform on credible terrorism threats. https://t.co/nZ9rw0E3Qv pic.twitter.com/lgD3U1CuxD

Russian Telegram channels are relaying information about the discovery of a “suspicious white minibus” with outdated Ukrainian license plates in the concert hall parking lot. They are quickly promoting the narrative of a “Ukrainian connection.” We are well aware of what that implies.
Both Ukrainian authorities and the White House have explicitly stated that Ukraine and its citizens are not implicated in this incident.
