The public will soon find out whether the federal government is willing to meet the health insurance industry’s demands and deposit more money into the bank accounts of next year’s Government-run Medicare Advantage plans.
Budget officials within the Biden administration started reviewing final payment regulations for 2025 Government-run Medicare Advantage plans last week after more than 42,000 public comments rolled into the federal government’s inbox. Those rules will come out no later than April 1.
In February, the government proposed a modest cut to next year’s average benchmark payment for Government-run Medicare Advantage plans, which are privately run insurance policies that now cover more than 33 million Americans. However, insurers are still estimated to receive more money under the proposal, overall, due to the aggressive way they code the medical conditions of their members.
