The progressive Left mainstream media just wants you to hear half of the Pope’s recent statement about homosexuality. They are trumpeting this message from their “woke” Pope: “Pope says homosexuality not a crime.”
The Associated Press printed this lead, “Pope Francis criticized laws that criminalize homosexuality as ‘unjust,’ saying God loves all his children just as they are and called on Catholic bishops who support the laws to welcome LGBTQ people into the church.”
The Associated Press went further with “their narrative” reporting that Pope Francis was hailed by gay rights advocates as a milestone.
The truth is that they are consistent with his previous statements about LGBTQ people. He has consistently said that the Catholic Church should welcome everyone and not discriminate.
But the Associated Press is burying the real milestone in what the Pope said in the interview.
“It’s not a crime. Yes, but it’s a sin. Fine, but first let’s distinguish between a sin and a crime,” the pontiff said.
That doesn’t sound like the “woke” Pope the press would like you to believe exists.
Pope Francis has always been open to all, just like Jesus who preached for all the weary and heavy-laden to come to Him.
So the Catholic Church still views all sex outside of marriage as sinful, not just homosexual sex. The Pope didn’t create any new theology, he stood on the Biblical authority that the Church has always had.
And because the Church is to welcome sinners, it is to treat gay people with respect and love.
In 2021, the Vatican’s doctrinal office decreed that the church could not bless same-sex unions because “God cannot bless sin.”
The pope has condemned laws in some nations that consider homosexuality a crime, saying bishops from those countries should have a process of “conversion” to help them welcome LGBTQ people into their ministry.
