Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had his eyes on California lawyer and tech entrepreneur Nicole Shanahan as a possible running mate, according to Mediaite.
The news outlet revealed that they had discovered a domain registration of kennedyshanahan.com, showing an active fundraising effort with a page where visitors can go and donate. The domain was paid by Link Lipsitz, a senior advisor to RFK Jr.
Shanahan was Google co-founder Sergey Brinn’s ex-wife. She financed Kennedy’s Super Bowl ad and is expected to be formally announced as Kennedy’s VP candidate.
This decision comes after NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been ruled out as RFK Jr.’s donors cited concerns.
The news site further added that the two “align on numerous issues,” including condemnation of vaccines, the tech entrepreneur could also help in raising funds for Kennedy’s bid for the presidency.
According to Newsmax, a source remarked that RFK Jr.’s campaign is “looking for a candidate who can help finance the ballot access initiative.”
“She might be infusing millions of dollars into the campaign to help fund the ballot initiative, which makes her attractive financially,” the source added. However, the question remains if the lawyer can “actually do the job.”
Based on The New York Times’ report last month, Shanahan is a major financier to the Democratic Party. She also invests heavily in scientific research in health and the environment.
Right now, Kennedy Jr. and his team are working to be included on the 2024 general election ballot in all 50 states.
RFK Jr.’s team estimates that they will need $15 million to acquire the much-needed 1 million signatures to appear on ballots in all states.
The majority of this will go to employing petition gatherers to be able to meet the deadlines.
“You have got to pay for signature collectors,” remarked Michael Arno, who owns a signature-gathering company and has worked with different independent candidates and No Labels efforts.
“And you may well have a great volunteer network, but you’re going to have to have paid signature gatherers.”
Amaryllis Kennedy, RFK Jr.’s campaign director and daughter-in-law said he “cannot win unless he is on the ballot.”
“Our hope is that we won’t need as many paid petitioners as we had expected.”
“We are building some really groundbreaking digital tools to harness hundreds of thousands of volunteers and supporters and encourage each of them to go out and collect 10 or 12 or 16 signatures,” Amaryllis Kennedy said.
