In what is starting to feel a lot like a Congressional game of chicken, Hunter Biden blinked.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) “called Hunter Biden’s bluff” and invited the first son to testify as a witness in a March 20 hearing titled, “Influence Peddling: Examining Joe Biden’s Abuse of Public Office.”
“Hunter Biden for months stated he wanted a public hearing,” Comer said in a statement, “but now that one has been offered alongside his business associates that he worked with for years, he is refusing to come.”
Chairman Comer’s Statement on Next Week’s Hearing on the Bidens’ Corruption

“During our deposition and interview phase of our investigation, Hunter Biden confirmed key evidence, including evidence that his father, President Joe Biden, lied to the American people about his family’s business dealings and in fact attended meetings, spoke on speakerphone, and had coffee with his foreign business associates who collectively funneled millions to the Bidens,” Comer explained. “However, parts of Hunter Biden’s testimony contradict the testimonies of Devon Archer, Jason Galanis, and Tony Bobulinski.”
“Next week’s hearing with Hunter Biden and his associates is moving forward and we fully expect Hunter Biden to participate,” the lawmaker stated. “The American people demand the truth and accountability for the Bidens’ corruption.”
Except, “next week” isn’t going to happen, if you believe Hunter’s lawyer.
Attorney Abbe David Lowell has made it official: The scandalous son will be giving the “Hail Mary” a pass.
It seems Hunter has a more pressing hearing to go to than his father’s impeachment hearing.
“To begin, even if that hearing was a legitimate exercise of congressional authority, neither Mr. Biden nor I can attend because of a court hearing the very next day in California,” Lowell, Hunter Biden’s attorney, told Comer in a letter provided to the Washington Examiner. “The scheduling conflict is the least of the issues, however.”
“Your blatant planned-for-media event is not a proper proceeding,” Lowell stated, “but an obvious attempt to throw a Hail Mary pass after the game has ended.”
HUNTER IN DEC: “I’ve chosen. I’m here to testify at a public hearing…What are they afraid of? I’m here. I’m ready.”@GOPoversight: Schedules public hearing.
HUNTER NOW: Refuses our public hearing.

According to Lowell, the request for her client to appear was surprisingly “hasty.”
“After that six-plus hour deposition on February 28, 2024, along with the realization that your inquiry was based on a patchwork of conspiracies spun by convicted liars and a charged Russian spy, I thought even you would recognize your baseless impeachment proceeding was dead,” he wrote.
Besides, Lowell argued, any evidence presented at the impeachment hearing stems from “taking a word, phrase, or line out of context in a few communications usually written by other people than” Hunter Biden.
“Far from the ‘smoking guns’ you claim,” he told Comer, “the ‘evidence’ does not amount even to droplets from a water pistol.”
Meanwhile, the younger Biden’s trial on felony gun charges is tentatively set to begin June 3, the New York Post reports.
“Delaware US District Judge Maryellen Noreika set the date following a status conference with attorneys for the first son as well as prosecutors from special counsel David Weiss’ team,” according to the outlet.
As BizPac Review reported, Hunter pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges and a felony gun charge during a July 26 hearing after his June 20 plea sweetheart deal collapsed. Last month, Lowell and fellow attorneys Christopher Man, and Bartholomew Dalton argued to the court that a photo apparently showing three lines of cocaine was not, in fact, lines of blow.
“Hunter, 54, was indicted by Weiss Sept. 14 on three counts alleging the younger Biden lied about his addiction to crack cocaine while filling out background check forms to purchase a firearm in 2018,” the Post reports. “The charges, two counts of making false statements and one count of firearm possession by an unlawful substance abuser, carry a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.”
According to Tony Bobulinski, Hunter’s decision not to appear is disappointing.
“I was disappointed to see the news today that Hunter is running away from his chance to tell the American people the truth,” Bobulinski said in a statement. “He’s been adamant in wanting to go before the American people, and Oversight is now giving him that opportunity.”
“Now is the time to step up, Hunter, as you have said you want to do,” his former business associate urged the first son. “Don’t cower in the face of accountability and in this fight for truth and democracy!”
“If by chance March 20th really doesn’t work due to your multiple criminal indictments, please name the date and time and I will be happy to join you at a second hearing for the American people,” Bobulinski added. “Let the facts and truth prevail! God Bless America!”
Tony Bobulinski has issued a statement regarding next week’s hearing before the @GOPoversight, reading in part:
“Joe Biden and Hunter Biden, along with countless members of Congress, keep claiming that they are ‘fighting for our Democracy.’ Why don’t we as a nation agree to… pic.twitter.com/Kvgnaelj6l
