House Bill 2505 would remove the local maximum tax cap on marijuana sales.
The Bill title reads “Increases maximum percentage of tax that governing body of city or county may impose on sale of marijuana items. Requires percentage of newly enacted or increased amount to be transferred to county in which collecting retail establishment is located, provided county is eligible for Oregon Marijuana Account distributions. Applies to marijuana items sold on or after January 1, 2024.”
Many local governments feel overwhelmed by drug gangs, drug cartels, illegal drug farms and crimes related to the drug trade as well as the high cost of more residents needing rehabilitation. Under State Representative Mark Owens and State Senator Lynn Findley, HB 2505 would remove the cap and allow higher taxes on marijuana shops.
