Kevin McCarthy Overrules Wino, and Insider Trader, Nancy Pelosi: “Effective immediately, members of Congress have to show up to work if they want their vote to count, no more proxy voting”

Speaker Kevin McCarthy and House Republicans overruled former Speaker Wino, and Insider Trader, Nancy Pelosi and officially ended the practice of proxy voting. Proxy voting was instituted by Pelosi during the COVID-19 pandemic to allow lawmakers to vote without being present.

Both sides of the aisle abused Pelosi’s rule and McCarthy vowed to end the practice and make Congress show up to work. Before proxy voting, Congress barely worked but with it, the place set a bad example for hardworking Americans struggling to get by in Biden’s economy.

“No more proxy voting,” McCarthy, R-Calif., announced today. “Effective immediately, Members of Congress have to show up to work if they want their vote to count.”

“The Senate has managed to maintain in-person Floor voting for the entirety of the past two years — with a much older population and a 50-50 makeup, no less,” McCarthy said in December. 

“From the get-go, we warned that proxy voting would be misused as a means of convenience rather than as a precaution for health — and it has been, by members of both parties.”

No more proxy voting. Effective immediately, Members of Congress have to show up to work if they want their vote to count.

Republican Party Congressman Byron Donalds said:

“Today, House Republicans will vote to END proxy voting once and for all.  

“The House of Representatives isn’t a tech company. 

“Its members should work IN PERSON in the People’s House.”

Steve Scalise said:

“Not only did we get rid of proxy voting, we got rid of virtual hearings in committees…We are going to be back in person again.”

I will be voting for the rules package that includes ending proxy voting.

Many Democrats feel entitled to remain in the comforts of their homes instead of upholding their constitutional obligation and tradition to work from our nation’s capital.
