If there was anyone worthy of the death penalty, it would be Patrick Crusius.
Crusius is the alleged El Paso Walmart shooter who killed 23 people and injured another 22.
Yet, the Biden administration’s Department of Justice has decided to not seek the death penalty in the case.
The El Paso Shooting
This horrific slaughter checks every box you can imagine in terms of being a death penalty case.
Crusius allegedly drove 10 hours from Allen, TX, to El Paso. He chose that Walmart because he wanted a store that was filled with Hispanic people. He cased the store to ensure it was full of people before he entered and opened fire.
On August 3, 2019, he entered the store with an AK-47 and started shooting. When the shooting stopped, 45 people had been hit, 23 them of the fatally.
According to El Paso Matters, the filing by the Partisan Department of Justice stated, “The United States of America hereby notifies the Court and Defendant Patrick Wood Crusius that the Government will not seek the death penalty in the instant case.”
According to his manifesto that was posted online, Crusius complained about a “Hispanic invasion of Texas,” writing that he was “simply defending my country from cultural and ethnic replacement brought on by an invasion.”
The day of the shooting was a back-to-school shopping day, so the store was also packed with children at the time of the shooting.
While Crusius is avoiding the death penalty in the federal case, in the state case being brought against him by Texas and Governor Abbott, he will not be so lucky.
The case had has some setbacks that resulted in the firing of DA Yvonne Rosales, among other problems in other cases.
Abbott has since appointed Bill Hicks to be the DA, and he will be taking over the case. Since Hicks has only recently been assigned, there is no trial date set for the case.,
This will, by far, be the biggest criminal case in the history of El Paso.
