Senator Marco Rubio, a Republican from Florida, expressed his view on Thursday that being considered for a spot on former President Donald Trump’s 2024 ticket would be “an honor.”
Rubio clarified that he has not engaged in discussions regarding this potential candidacy with anyone from Trump’s inner circle.

The remarks
Rubio emphasized, “I think anybody who would be offered that should be honored, but I’ve never spoken to anybody in the Trump world about it.”
NBC News reported on Wednesday that Rubio is among more than a dozen possible picks on Trump’s radar and that his candidacy has been gaining traction recently.
Given their stature in Florida’s Republican circles, Rubio and Trump share mutual allies who would view their joint candidacy positively.
A legal concern
Constitutional constraints prevent electors from voting for both a presidential and vice-presidential candidate from their home states. Historical precedent suggests potential workarounds, such as Dick Cheney’s relocation to Wyoming before becoming George W. Bush’s running mate in 2000.
While Rubio affirmed that he has not directly discussed the vice-presidential role with Trump or his associates, reports indicate that no candidates have been approached by the Trump campaign yet.
Other potential running mates include Representative Elise Stefanik of New York, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, and Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina. South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem has also been among the leading names in the discussions as Trump’s running mate, while some others, like Vivek Ramaswamy, have been ruled out recently.
Trump’s praise
“He has been much better for me than he was for himself,” Trump continued. “I watched his campaign, and he doesn’t like talking about himself, but boy, does he talk about Trump.”
Trump also downplayed the vice presidential role during his comments, however, adding, “The one thing that always surprises me is that the VP choice has absolutely no impact. It’s whoever the president is.”
Rubio’s stance reflects the nuanced dynamics within the Republican Party as it navigates its future political landscape. His potential inclusion on Trump’s ticket highlights the strategic considerations involved in presidential politics, particularly in key swing states like Florida.
As speculation continues to swirl around potential vice-presidential candidates, Rubio’s comments offer insight into his perspective on public service and his readiness to fulfill any role that serves the best interests of the country.
