David Axelrod, best known as the former chief strategist for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, has some advice for President Joe Biden: “Look like” you’ve got control of the U.S, border with Mexico.
Biden doesn’t actually have to have control of the border, mind you, but he needs to “look like” he does, because blaming Trump, Axelrod warned, just isn’t going to cut it.
Speaking to neocon Bill Kristol, Axelrod admitted that “the border issue” is of national concern, so optics are important.
Immigration, Axelrod said, is something that “Biden has to move on.”

“Whatever you think of [Texas Governor Greg] Abbott’s tactics, the border issue is now a national issue,” he told Kristol. “In Chicago, it’s an issue that’s torn the city apart. It’s separated communities that might otherwise be aligned — Hispanic communities, black communities. And the same is true in New York, in Denver.”
Forget about the invasion of the United States, a divided minority community is bad news for Biden’s campaign.
As BizPac Review reported, just a week ago, frustrated Windy City residents were chanting “Go Red!” and “No More Blue, No Matter Who!” during a Chicago City Council Chambers meeting.

“The inner city realizes they have been controlled by Democrats for decades and nothing has gotten better,” wrote Real America’s Voice (RAV) “Law & Border” host Ben Bergquam on X.
“Now they’re being sold out and replaced by illegals,” he stated. “They are done with Joe Biden and the open borders Democrats. Chicago and many cities across America are turning #MAGA #Trump2024.”
Even Kristol, a particularly vitriolic “Never-Trumper,” conceded that there is a “chaos perception” surrounding Biden’s approach to immigration.

Between the events in Gaza and the border situation, there is the sense “that Biden can’t control either,” Kristol said.
“That is it,” Axelrod agreed.
“I would not rely, if I were the Biden people, too much on the fact that Trump killed the most significant border bill,” he added. “I think [Biden] is going to have to do something by executive order, even if it’s challenged in the court. He has to look like he’s seizing control of this situation.”
If Biden looks like he’s doing something Presidential to stop the invasion, Axelrod reasoned, the argument for “Republican obstructionism” will be “more effective.”
“That has to happen,” he said. “Time is growing short. We’ve got a large migrant population. Many buses coming weekly from Texas, exacerbating it.”
“So I think the combination of protests over the war and tumult over migration and visible evidence of migrants–” he continued. “The diabolical mind would suggest that there will be migrant tents set up, and not necessarily by the city, in visible places, just to underscore the issue.”
Because disease-infested migrant tent cities are fine, Axelrod, seemed to suggest, so long as no one can see them.
On X, the exchange was met with disgust.
“Listen to how they don’t care about the effects of illegal immigration, until it begins to effect the reelection of Joe Biden,” wrote comedian filmmaker Eric Abbenante. “They don’t care about Americans, they care about maintaining power.”
“He has to ‘look like’ he’s seizing control,” he noted, “rather than Trump actually seizing control of the situation.”
“Disgusting human beings,” agreed another user. “American Oligarch makers and charter members of the Uniparty.”
“It’s all about managing perception with these people, isn’t it,” wrote another. “Its never about the substance of their policies or what they are actually doing, it’s all about the perception of doing good, not the reality of it.”
“Funny how these people who contributed to these problems when they were in power act like they had nothing to do with it when the problem has become undeniable,” one user stated. “That’s the problem with political advisors; their view is narrowed to only winning elections and nothing beyond that.”
