In multiple recent appearances, Democrat Governor Roy Cooper of North Carolina has launched an attack against homeschooling and private schools.
From Breitbart:
On Tuesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “The Last Word,” North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper (D) stated that the Republican candidate for superintendent of the state’s schools, Michele Morrow, is part of an “extreme” group of Republican candidates running statewide in the State of North Carolina and one example of Morrow’s extremism is the fact that she homeschools all of her children.
Cooper said that the Republicans are “going for power, and they’re not paying attention to the real issues that are facing the people of North Carolina and the people across this country. So, we’re going to work very hard. I think the road to the presidency runs through North Carolina.
And when you look at our statewide candidates, they’ve nominated people like Mark Robinson, like Rep. Dan Bishop (R-NC) for attorney general, who’s in Congress now, and part of the Boebert, Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene cabal. They’ve nominated someone for superintendent of public schools in North Carolina who believes that teachers ought to have guns in the classroom, who homeschools all of her children, and took them to January 6 at the Capitol. That is the kind of extreme Republican lineup that’s in North Carolina.”

Wednesday morning, Cooper doubled down, as he posted a video on his X/Twitter page and declared, “We need to put a moratorium on destructive private school vouchers until North Carolina’s public schools are fully funded.”
“Millions of taxpayer dollars are flowing into private schools with radical agendas,” he claimed.
Cooper also claimed that studies show that those in private schools are “falling behind their peers in public schools.”

Eric Cunningham, founder of Elections Daily, called out Cooper, writing, “Roy Cooper says in this video his kids went to public school, but this is misleading. One of his daughters went to a private school that charges at least $33k per year, and another went to prep school.”

Meanwhile, the Republican candidate Cooper has criticized so harshly, Michele Morrow, is pushing back over the backlash and explained exactly WHY she homeschools her child.
The Carolina Journal published an op-ed titled, “The needs of NC’s students with disabilities are forgotten due to political extremism.”
Morrow replied in a social media post, “Mr. Stephens should know I have educated exceptional learners for over 10 years. My special needs child could not be accommodated by public schools, so I decided to homeschool. NC schools can build stronger bridges for families of special needs children. #ncpol #nced.”

Morrow is also vowing to make schools safer if she is elected.
“Here’s what parents in every NC county are worried about – the 84% increase in school crime & violence over the past 5 years. As Superintendent I’ll help make schools the safest buildings in the state,” Morrow wrote.
