April 15th is “Tax Day.”
It is the deadline for Americans to file their taxes with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
And Ron DeSantis made one announcement on Tax Day that every American wishes they could hear from their Governor.
There is an old idiom that says, “death and taxes are the only two things in life that are certain.”
Unfortunately, it is true.
And for Americans, this includes a dreaded federal income tax on their earnings.
In 1861, Abraham Lincoln imposed the first-ever federal income tax when he signed the Revenue Act.
According to estimates from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), individual income taxes are by far the government’s largest source of revenue.
Overall, the IRS expects to receive and process more than 160 million individual and business tax returns this year.
As of April 5, the IRS had already received 101.8 million individual income tax returns and had issued 66.8 million refunds.
But the IRS is not the only government that imposes a tax on income.
In total, 43 states also levy individual income taxes.
Alaska, Nevada, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and Wyoming have no income tax for the citizens who live and work there.
Florida is also a state that does not levy income tax.
And while Americans across the country stressed over filing their tax returns by the April 15 deadline, Ron DeSantis made an announcement that folks in the 43 states with income taxes would love to hear from their Governor.
“On Tax Day, I can report the following,” DeSantis wrote on X, before adding that the “number of individual income tax filings due to the State of Florida for calendar year 2023: Zero.”
“Amount of individual income tax revenue collected by the State of Florida for calendar year 2023,” he continued, before adding “zero.”
On Tax Day, I can report the following:
—Number of individual income tax filings due to the State of Florida for calendar year 2023:
Zero.
—Amount of individual income tax revenue collected by the State of Florida for calendar year 2023:
Zero.

DeSantis’ staffer Jeremy Redfern shared the Governor’s post and added his own take to it.
He noted that Florida’s budget was balanced, the deficit was decreasing, the state had a AAA credit rating, and “a business friendly and family-focused government without burdening Floridians with more taxes.”
Budget: balanced.
Deficit: decreasing.
Credit rating: AAA.
