Every four years, no matter what candidates we’re talking about, one issue ALWAYS seems to become important around election time.
Abortion.
It’s not that abortion isn’t important all year round.
We should always be willing to speak out against the killing of unborn babies whether an election is coming up or not.
It’s just that it’s a little extra important around election season because we’re deciding the future of babies in this country.
Pro-lifers are particularly worried these days because it used to seem like the issue was pretty much split down the middle along party lines.
However, recently, some very prominent GOP members have seemed to be seriously thinking about compromising on abortion to get along with Democrats.
One of those GOP members was former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley.
She said on the campaign trail that while she wasn’t necessarily endorsing abortion, she predicted that eventually, Republicans are going to come to grips with the fact that women want the right to choose.
Donald Trump used to be somebody who Republicans were able to lean on to support the pro-life cause, but even he might not be in totally pro-life these days.
Just recently, Donald Trump made the decision to back away from endorsing a national 15-week abortion ban, and Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, was NOT happy.
He said that Trump’s declaration that he’d leave everything up to the states “runs contrary to an American consensus that would limit late-term abortions.”
“I respectfully disagree with President Trump’s statement that abortion is a states’ rights issue,” Lindsey Graham said.
“The pro-life movement has always been about the wellbeing of the unborn child — not geography.”
“The science is clear — a child at fifteen weeks is well-developed and capable of feeling pain,” Graham concluded. “I will continue to advocate that there should be a national minimum standard limiting abortion at fifteen weeks because the child is capable of feeling pain, with exceptions for rape, incest, and life of the mother.”
