Most polls show President Joe Biden trailing behind former President Donald Trump, a fact which has led some observers to speculate that former First Lady Michelle Obama might take his place on the Democratic ticket.
However, an announcement put out this past weekend may have thrown cold water on such suggestions.
Poll shows Trump beating Michelle Obama
According to Breitbart, a poll commissioned by the Daily Mail and carried out by J.L.Partners found that in a head-to-head match up, Mrs. Obama would receive 44% of the vote compared with 47% for Trump.

What’s more, the survey showed Mrs. Obama losing to Trump by the same three-point as Biden, who garnered 43% of the vote to Trump’s 46% share.
“Some have been touting an emergency parachute for Biden for some time: draft Michelle Obama,” J.L. Partners co-founder James Johnson was quoted as telling the Daily Mail.
Pollster says that “it was never realistic” that Obama would run
“But it turns out voters are no more keen to vote for Michelle over Trump than they are for Biden, with Trump beating her overall and even with Independents,” he the pollster explained.
“It was never very realistic, but this poll puts paid to the idea she can be any kind of saving force for the Democrats,” Johnson went on to stress.
Breitbart noted how Mrs. Obama has consistently denied having any interest in running for public office, a message which spokesperson Crystal Carson repeated last month.
“As former First Lady Michelle Obama has expressed several times over the years, she will not be running for president,” she told NBC News.
Carson went on to point out that “Mrs. Obama supports President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris‘ re-election campaign.”
Former first lady: “Zero chance” she will seek public office
Fox News reported that the former first lady delivered a similar message during a 2019 interview with The National, stating, “Just between us, and the readers of this magazine — there’s zero chance.”
“There are so many ways to improve this country and build a better world, and I keep doing plenty of them, from working with young people to helping families lead healthier lives,” she remarked.
“But sitting behind the desk in the Oval Office will never be one of them,” the former first lady declared before concluding, “It’s just not for me.”
