The family of the St. Louis 15-year-old who slammed Kaylee Gain’s head into the pavement, fracturing her skull, is claiming she is the real victim here and that she was only defending herself.
The attacker who put Gain in the hospital contends she was “harassed and bullied” before the video of her assaulting the girl went viral. Her family is attempting to raise $150,000 for her legal defense, according to the Daily Mail.
The video of that assault is hard to watch and is extremely violent.
“Kaylee, 16, from St Louis, Missouri has been left in a life-threatening condition by the student who repeatedly smashed her head into concrete,” the Daily Mail reported. “She suffered a skull fracture and frontal lobe damage during the violent March 8 brawl which was caught on camera near her high school.”

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey posted on X, “This evil and complete disregard for human life has no place in Missouri, or anywhere. I am praying for the victim. The criminal should be charged and tried as an adult. If the victim dies, that offense should rise to a homicide.”
I’ve been vocal about the need for juvenile justice reform, and I’ll continue to push for changes to ensure that perpetrators of violent crimes are appropriately punished.
This horrific ordeal underscores a prominent issue our state is facing. No one, especially children,…

The attacker’s name is Maurnice DeClue. Her family is decrying Bailey’s call to charge as an adult over the incident even though the video seems to tell the story pretty clearly and shows how viciously violent the attacker was during the assault.
“Speaking to DailyMail.com her aunt confirmed that she was an honor roll student at Hazelwood East High School with an exemplary record and was ‘defending herself’ during the fight with Kaylee,” the Daily Mail wrote.
The family is circulating a Change.org petition asking that the St. Louis Juvenile Court show “compassion” to the attacker. They claim that Gain was not being bullied by the girl despite evidence to the contrary. They also contend that DeClue “deserves amnesty and a chance at forgiveness.” Instead, the family asserts that DeClue is the one being “harassed and bullied” and claims she is an honor roll student who speaks four languages.
Nah, she needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. This girl is ev*l and Missouri needs to make an example out of her.

“If people want to donate, they should give it on the CashApp, not the petition,” DeClue’s aunt told the Daily Mail. “We set up a GoFundMe but it was taken down in hours, we have a lawyer. The family are all together and we will get through this.”
The family says they are being targeted with “racist death threats” and that DeClue’s “fair trial hearing is being swayed.” They also say that they have been doxxed.
The attacker is being charged with felony assault and is being held by St Louis Family Court. A hearing is scheduled for early April.
Gain’s family has raised over $300,000 for her legal bills. She has still not regained consciousness more than ten days after the incident occurred.
