Andrew and Tristan Tate were taken into custody in Romania on Monday and handed a U.K. arrest warrant over alleged sexual aggression which the brothers both deny.
Andrew Tate, 37, is a former kickboxer and an influencer online with millions of followers on X. His brother, Tristan, 25, was also detained. Both are being held for 24 hours. The brothers are being accused of sex offenses that date back to 2012-2015, according to Tate’s spokesperson Mateea Petrescu who spoke with the Associated Press.
Petrescu said that the brothers “express profound disappointment that such serious allegations are being resurrected without substantial new evidence.”
“Petrescu said the Bucharest Court of Appeal is slated to make a ‘pivotal decision’ Tuesday on if it will execute the warrants issued by U.K.’s Westminster Magistrates Court,” Fox News reported.

“Four women had reported Tate to the U.K. authorities for alleged sexual violence and physical abuse, but the Crown Prosecution Service declined to prosecute him. The alleged victims then used crowdfunding to support their legal costs amid their pursuit of a civil case against him,” the media outlet added.
The fundraiser decried inaction against Andrew Tate, stating, “We handed over our evidence about the horrific acts of violence we endured and waited for action. But four years later we were told the U.K. authorities would not prosecute him. It’s our one remaining route to hold him accountable.”
“McCue Jury & Partners, the legal firm representing the four British women who accuse Andrew Tate of rape and serious physical and sexual assaults, said in a statement Tuesday they had urged British police to ‘immediately seek a warrant’ for Tate’s detention and extradition after they received information last week that he might be planning to flee Romania,” the Associated Press reported.
“Today’s news is very welcome as it had been a significant concern to many that Tate would seek to avoid justice in Romania and abroad,” Matthew Jury, a managing partner at the law firm, declared. “We are grateful to the British authorities for taking our concerns seriously and issuing an arrest warrant. Tate is accused of serious criminal offenses against a large number of victims and he must be held accountable.”

Jury alleged that since Tate was arrested in Romania, he has “spread a vast amount of disinformation about the criminal charges he faces in the U.K.” in interviews with media figures such as Tucker Carlson and Piers Morgan.
Another case in Romania is charging the former kickboxer with rape, human trafficking, and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women. Tristan Tate was busted in December 2022 near Bucharest with two Romanian women. The brothers and the women were all indicted in June by Romanian prosecutors. They have denied the charges.
“Tate has repeatedly claimed that the Romanian prosecutors’ case against him lacks any evidence and that there is a political conspiracy to silence him. He was previously banned from various prominent social media platforms for expressing misogynistic views and for hate speech,” Fox News wrote.

Andrew Tate claims he moved to Romania for freedom and in response to the “Me Too” movement.
“This is probably 40% of the reason I moved to Romania,” Tate said via video. “I’m not a f***ing rapist, but I like the idea of just being able to do what I want. I like being free.”
The brothers were previously detained in Romania. They were held in custody for three months before being released to house arrest. Following that, they were restricted to Bucharest Municipality and nearby Ilfov County.

“In January, Tate won an appeal challenging Romanian authorities’ seizure of his assets, which were confiscated in the weeks following his arrest. Romanian authorities had seized 15 luxury cars, 14 designer watches, and cash in various currencies worth an estimated 3.6 million euros, or $3.9 million,” Fox News noted.
The brothers are dual U.K. and U.S. citizens.
Tate and his brother were released at the time of this writing. “We are very innocent men, and in time everyone’s going to see that,” he stated to the Romanian press.
