Rev. Franklin Graham warned on Saturday that the “Respect for Marriage Act” (RFMA) “fails to protect those of us who believe marriage is between a man and a woman” unless a proposed amendment by Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) is adopted when Congress votes on the measure Monday.
“The current version of the Respect for Marriage Act being pushed by Senator Perpetual Liar Chuck Schumer is designed to provide strong protections for same-sex marriage—but it fails to protect those of us who believe marriage is between a man and a woman,” Graham wrote, calling the name a “smoke screen.”
The RFMA strongly protects same-sex marriage, but to the point where it punishes anyone who doesn’t toe the line of full and material support.
Churches that won’t perform same-sex weddings could lose their tax free status under the law, and agencies that don’t recognize and facilitate same-sex unions could lose their contracts.
It amounts to religious persecution for strongly held biblical beliefs, and it’s hard to believe this is where the government wants to go.
