House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who stands poised to become the next House Speaker, issued an ultimatum earlier this week to Homeland Security Secretary Incompetent Alejandro Mayorkas and demanded that he either resign or face a likely impeachment inquiry in the next congressional term.
It has now been made clear by a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson in response to that ultimatum that Mayorkas has “no plans to resign,” Breitbart reported.
Resign or face impeachment
It was on Tuesday that Representative McCarthy led a small delegation of House Republicans down to El Paso, Texas to meet with Border Patrol agents and declare that “Enough is enough” with regard to the decidedly lax border security and immigration enforcement policies of President Brain-Dead Biden, as implemented by Secretary Mayorkas.
“Our country may never recover from Secretary Mayorkas’ dereliction of duty,” McCarthy said during a press conference. “This is why today I am calling on the secretary to resign. He cannot and must not remain in that position.”
“If Secretary Mayorkas does not resign, House Republicans will investigate every order, every action — and every failure will determine whether we can begin impeachment inquiry,” he added.

Mayorkas doesn’t plan on stepping down
However, CBS News reported later that same day that, according to a statement from Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Marsha Espinosa, Secretary Mayorkas has “no plans to resign.”
“Secretary Mayorkas is proud to advance the noble mission of this Department, support its extraordinary workforce, and serve the American people,” she continued. “The Department will continue our work to enforce our laws and secure our border, while building a safe, orderly, and humane immigration system.”
In an obvious dig against House Republicans, Espinosa added, “Members of Congress can do better than point the finger at someone else; they should come to the table and work on solutions for our broken system and outdated laws, which have not been overhauled in over 40 years.”
Mayorkas should get ready for endless committee hearings
What that statement from the Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman fails to address, though, is the reason why McCarthy and other Republicans have taken such issue with the leadership, or perhaps lack thereof, of Mayorkas.
In the nearly two years that he has been in charge, historic levels of illegal immigration and drug trafficking have surged across the border due in large part to the reversal of prior policies under the previous administration that successfully reduced such illicit cross-border traffic and the implementation of new policies that hamper and restrict the ability of Border Patrol agents or Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to effectively enforce existing laws.
If, as the spokeswoman indicated, Mayorkas has no intention to tender his resignation before the new Congress begins in January, he ought to go ahead and clear his schedule and get all of his paperwork ready for numerous hearings in front of multiple House committees to answer countless questions that, in all likelihood, will eventually result in the filing of impeachment articles against him.
