Former President Donald Trump didn’t write the book, “The Art of the Deal,” for nothing. He’s still using the same strategies he’s used all his professional life to make deals.
On Wednesday, after becoming the official presumptive Republican presidential nominee Tuesday night, Trump announced he has made a new deal.
Two Trump-supporting Republicans in North Carolina were headed for a runoff election in their race for the same seat in U.S. Congress. Trump had already endorsed one, and he has just hired the other to work on his campaign.
Problem solved!
NBC station WCNC Charlotte reported:
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Rev. Mark Walker is no longer running for his old seat in the U.S. House of Representatives after accepting an invitation to work on former President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign.
Walker announced Wednesday that Trump had asked him to take a lead role as the Director of Outreach for faith and minority communities in the former president’s bid to return to the White House. A statement shared by Walker’s congressional campaign said he also planned to continue his duties should Trump win the presidential election.
With Walker out of the race for his former seat in North Carolina’s 6th congressional district, the runoff against fellow Republican contender Addison McDowell is dropped. McDowell gained endorsement from both Trump and current Senator Ted Budd.
Walker previously served in U.S. Congress from 2015 to 2021, but had lost his seat due to redistricting.
Trump announced on Wednesday:
I’ve asked Congressman Mark Walker to join my Campaign team to work with Faith Groups and Minority Communities, and he has agreed to immediately do so. During his tenure in the U.S. House, Mark led on the FUTURE ACT, launched the HBCU paid internship program on Capitol Hill, and organized the largest ever fly-in for HBCU Chancellors for meetings with our Nation’s top leaders.
Congressman Walker is also the only Republican in Congress to have won the prestigious UNCF President’s List Award, and delivered the Commencement Address at one of our Nation’s great HBCUs. He is very well suited for this important work.
As a former Pastor, Mark is respected across the Evangelical Communities, and lived out his Faith in Congress. Mark and I had many Wins together, and we look forward to continuing to build bridges to all Communities in our Great Nation, and advancing this important work in the White House. Welcome Mark!
“I am grateful to join @realdonaldtrump’s campaign as Director of Outreach for faith and minority communities. I hope you will now join me as we fight together for a better America. Let’s get to work,” Walker announced.

In another announcement, Walker wrote, “I’m glad to support @Addison_McD as the presumptive congressman-elect for the sixth district. We are both committed to working with President @realDonaldTrump for a better America.”

Since no Democrat filed to run for the North Carolina 6th Congressional District seat, McDowell will now be unopposed in November’s General Election, and will win the seat in the U.S. Congress. The seat is currently held by a Democrat.
WRAL News wrote:
The seat is currently held by Democrat Kathy Manning, who opted not to run for re-election after state lawmakers redrew the district into one that heavily favors Republicans. Manning is in her second term in Congress. She replaced Walker, who did not run for re-election after the district moved toward Democrats.
“Thank you, #NC06! I am honored to be your next Congressman. On Day One in DC, I will lead the charge to secure our border, bring back our jobs, and defend our God-given freedoms. ,” he wrote on Wednesday, after Walker dropped out.
