WASHINGTON, D.C. – A man was fatally shot, and five other people, including two juveniles, were injured in a shooting rampage on Wednesday evening. Law enforcement has alerted the public regarding a vehicle presumed to be carrying the suspect or suspects involved, who swiftly left the crime scene.
While the investigation is ongoing, the authorities have confirmed the fatalities and injuries. One man has been declared dead on site, and the other casualties, two of which are a 9 and a 12-year-old, are presently being treated in the hospital for non-critical injuries.
The shooting incident reportedly took place at about 6:10 p.m. in the northeast area of Washington D.C., and authorities suspect there may be a total of two shooters involved. The suspects are believed to have begun shooting from their car and initiated fire, based on the primary course of the inquiry.
Washington police described the vehicle on the loose as “a light blue Toyota sedan” with unspecified license plates, no front plates, a dark tint, black rims, and possibly housing two shooters inside. The car’s last seen direction was eastbound along Maryland Avenue in the Northeast.
In a news briefing, Chief Pamela A. Smith of Washington police expressed sympathy to all affected in the Wednesday shooting. She asserted that the police force has been committed to combating an upturn in violence lately.
Despite a 22% reduction in violent crimes and homicides compared to this same period in the previous year, there have been three other reported shooting incidents in D.C. in the past week leading to several injuries. Smith noted that they are doubling efforts to curtail the proliferation of illegal firearms in the city.
