A whistleblower exposed the CIA for interfering with the ongoing investigation against Hunter Biden by barring other federal agencies from interviewing a witness.
In August 2021, according to the witness, the CIA prevented the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) from interviewing Kevin Morris, Hunter’s sugar brother.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Kentucky) demanded records of related communications to clarify the matter in a letter addressed to CIA Director William Burns sent on March 21.
“As part of the impeachment inquiry, the committees are investigating, among other things, whether President Biden ‘abuse[d] his power as President to impede, obstruct, or otherwise hinder investigations or the prosecution of Hunter Biden,’” the lawmakers wrote.
Meanwhile, a CIA spokesperson responded to the Epoch Times, saying that the agency ‘as a matter of principle’ does not interfere in investigations.
“We can say that the CIA cooperates with law enforcement partners and does not obstruct investigations,” the spokesperson said.
“CIA also fully and routinely cooperates with our oversight committees and will continue to do so.”
The lawmakers detailed that two DOJ officials were called to CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, and briefed that the “sugar brother” would not be available for the investigation.
“It is unknown why or on what basis the CIA allegedly intervened to prevent investigators from interviewing Mr. Morris,” the lawmakers wrote. “However, these allegations track with other evidence showing how the DOJ deviated from its standard investigative practices during the investigation of Hunter Biden.”
Comer and Jordan requested Burns to turn over all documents and communications related to the DOJ/IRS investigation of Hunter Biden and regarding Morris by April 4.
Before this incident, the DOJ also attempted to stonewall an ongoing tax probe against Biden.
According to two IRS whistleblowers, Gary Shapley, and John Ziegler, the DOJ also blocked other witnesses from testifying and tax investigators from asking questions that would expose Biden.
On January 18, Morris gave a deposition and described Hunter as “one of my closest friends.” He also admitted that he loaned $5 million to Hunter Biden to save him from his tax debt.
Hunter Biden is scheduled to go on trial on June 20 for the federal tax-related charges against him in California. He also pleaded not guilty to buying and owning a handgun while using illegal drugs and lying on federal forms about his history of substance abuse when he purchased the revolver.
