An attempt to pander off Caitlin Clark’s success saw Democrats fall in line behind President Joe Biden, only to be confronted with some hard truths about women’s sports.
“Economics is haunted by more fallacies than any other study known to man,” as Henry Hazlitt put it in his titular work “Economics in One Lesson.” Tuesday, Marxist ideologues endeavored to peddle one of the biggest as they touted the disparate figures for professional basketball players when comparing men and women.
With now former Iowa Hawkeye Caitlin Clark’s selection as the number one pick in the WNBA draft by the Indiana Fever, Biden’s X account used the hype of the moment to run out a tired argument about getting paid a “fair share.”
“Women in sports continue to push new boundaries and inspire us all. But right now we’re seeing that even if you’re the best, women are not paid their fair share,” read the statement. “It’s time that we give our daughters the same opportunities as our sons and ensure women are paid what they deserve.”

Similarly, as headlines cropped up like one from CBS News that “Caitlin Clark’s salary spotlights gender pay gap in women’s sports,” and NBC’s “Today” noted, “Some fans are outraged at her salary,” Democratic Whip, Massachusetts Rep. Katherine Clark lamented, “Caitlin Clark is the highest-scoring player in NCAA history. The No. 1 pick in the WNBA Draft. She deserves equal pay. And so does every woman — on the court and off. It’s 2024. Enough is enough.”
Likewise, California Rep. Ro Khanna took to X sharing figures from Spotrac on the rookie’s contract and griped, “The first pick in the NBA draft will make around $10 million in one year. Caitlin Clark will make $76,535. That is wrong. Pay women what they deserve.”

Instead of taking the “L” over his talking point when he was challenged about the level of his own personal financial support of the WNBA, the congressman served up a response sprinkled with idealism and expectations, a dusting of false equivalencies and bereft of the reality of the league.
“One doesn’t need to watch WNBA games to speak about pay fairness,” argued Khanna. “Clark will bring new fans and likely juice WNBA ratings. She should be compensated for the expected ratings increase she will bring. NBA players like Bird, Jordan, Johnson did the same. Isn’t this basic economics?”

Inigo Montoya readily came to mind as Democrats continued to bandy about terms without an apparent grasp of their meaning, and the social media account of pseudonymous commentator AG Hamilton broke it down after asking, “Why not admit you have no idea what you’re talking about?”
“The Indiana Fever, Clark’s team, had a salary cap of 1.4M for all their players combined (12 active + 2 dead cap). They aren’t going to make a rookie their highest paid player because she has a rookie contract. So how much could they possibly pay her?” came a follow-up question. “Leagues can’t pay money they don’t have.”
“Bird and Magic were on the higher end for rookies, but still made rookie level money when they came in (both way under 1M per year),” continued the argument before arriving at the main point. “But that league was already far more profitable than the WNBA.”
With the shot came a chaser as AG tacked on another reality check, “And just to be clear: Caitlin Clark will make about 0.12% of the WNBA’s revenue per year. The first pick of the NBA draft will make around 0.1% of the NBA’s revenue per year. It helps to know what you are talking about.”

Of course, while many sounded off on the economics noting, “The problem is that there are more people who want to complain about WNBA salary disparities than there are who actually want to watch the WNBA,” others took aim at the Democratic Party’s embrace of the rainbow jihad that has routinely celebrated men and boys taking opportunities away from women and girls in their own sports to satisfy a leftist agenda.
• NBA revenue is 166x that of the WNBA, whereas
• the average NBA salary is 93x that the average WNBA salary. The problem is that there are more people who want to complain about WNBA salary disparities than there are who actually want to watch the WNBA.

Maybe let’s start by not letting men compete in their sports if you want to talk about “fair”

If WNBA players were paid based on profits, each player would owe the league $61,000. pic.twitter.com/CG7uodRuWK

Nothing to see here folks, just the President of the United States gaslighting about something over which he has no actual power, while stating clearly nonsensical and communistic beliefs…
