On Tuesday, Russian missiles landed in Poland, killing two people on NATO territory, the US has confirmed.
As reported by The Telegraph:
One or two projectiles reportedly struck a tractor carrying grain near the village of Przewodow, which lies about five miles from the Ukrainian border, just before 4 pm on Tuesday afternoon.
The missile strikes occurred at the same time that Moscow launched a significant missile barrage on Lviv, Ukraine’s most western city.
Mateusz Morawiecki, the Polish prime minister, called an emergency meeting of the country’s national security committee to address the “crisis situation”.
Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder told reporters: “We are aware of the press reports alleging that two Russian missiles have struck a location inside Poland near the Ukraine border.
“I can tell you that we don’t have any information at this time to corroborate those reports and are looking into this further.”
The deadly incident marks the first time a Russian attack on Ukraine has killed someone inside neighbouring Nato territory since the start of the war.
Jens Stoltenberg, Nato‘s secretary general, has previously claimed its 30 members would defend and protect every inch of its territory in response to Russia‘s invasion of Ukraine.
