Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ Presidential campaign may not have worked out, but that does not mean he still cannot post wins.
Democrats continue to learn that lesson the hard way.
And Ron DeSantis just won a huge victory that left Democrats seething with rage.
DeSantis sends illegal aliens to Martha’s Vineyard and outrages the left
DeSantis followed Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s lead in the fall of 2022 and flew 50 illegal aliens to the liberal vacation enclave of Martha’s Vineyard.
Like Abbott, DeSantis sought to highlight the hypocrisy of Joe Biden’s open borders agenda by calling Democrat-run sanctuary cities and states on their bluff and sending them the illegal aliens Biden smuggled into the country.
Within 48 hours, authorities deported the illegal aliens.
But liberals were furious that DeSantis exposed their boasting of “diversity is our strength” as nothing more than empty virtue signaling.
Democrats like California Governor Gavin Newsom threatened DeSantis with kidnapping charges if DeSantis flew any illegal aliens to California.
“You small, pathetic man. This isn’t Martha’s Vineyard. Kidnapping charges?” Newsome wrote on X and linked to the statute in the California penal code stating that anyone who “abducts or takes by force or fraud” is guilty of kidnapping.
Judge dismisses DeSantis and other defendants from lawsuit over illegal alien flights
The leftist group, Lawyers for Civil Rights Boston, sued DeSantis, current and former top aides, and the company that arranged the flights.
But U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs dismissed DeSantis and his aides from the lawsuit, admitting that the plaintiffs did not present any evidence linking them to any illegal actions in Massachusetts.
“The court cannot ascertain what actions were undertaken by whom and therefore cannot determine which, if any, of the individual defendants transacted business or caused injury here, leaving it no choice but to find that, at least on this record, personal jurisdiction has not been established,” Burroughs stated.
DeSantis took the ruling for the complete vindication that it was.
“As we’ve always stated, the flights were conducted lawfully and authorized by the Florida Legislature,” DeSantis spokesman Jeremy Redfern declared. “We look forward to Florida’s next illegal immigrant relocation flight, and we are glad to bring national attention to the crisis at the southern border.”
But Burroughs did allow the lawsuit to continue against the company that flew the illegal aliens to Martha’s Vineyard.
“The court sees no legitimate purposes for rounding up highly vulnerable individuals on false pretenses and publicly injecting them into a divisive national debate,” Burroughs declared.
Lawyers for Civil Rights Boston latched onto that to declare victory.
“The favorable ruling is a major victory in the Martha’s Vineyard case, and it sends a crucial message: private companies can — and will — be held accountable for helping rogue state actors violate the rights of vulnerable immigrants through illegal and fraudulent schemes,” executive director Iván Espinoza-Madrigal declared.
The Left’s lawfare fails
Democrats wanted to wage lawfare against DeSantis the same way they are dragging Donald Trump through the court system.
But this case was so preposterous that even a judge ideologically inclined to agree with them on the principle of open borders rejected the lawsuit against DeSantis.
