In an exclusive interview with the New York Post, Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman shreds illegal occupation and “squatter’s rights.”
“Squatters have no rights,” blasts Fetterman. The senator quipped that he had dealt with the same issue when he was still mayor of Braddock, Pennsylvania.
“How can you even pretend that this is anything other than you’re just breaking the law?”
“I am not ‘woke’,” Fetterman stressed.
“We always tried to push back against that,” he added, recounting the previous coverage made by the Post on the squatting issue.
“It’s wild, that if you go away on a long trip, for 30 days, and someone breaks into your home, suddenly they have rights,” he remarked.
“This is crazy. Like if somebody stole your car, and then they held it for 30 days, then somehow you now have some rights?”
Last month, the Post featured an article on squatters who illegally occupied a Queens duplex and sued the rightful owners for refusing to leave their $930,000 home.
New York has recently seen a surge of unwelcome invaders who claim that they have rights to properties they do not own.
Fetterman also hit lax policies on crimes that led to the death of NYPD officer Jonathan Diller.
“I have gone to police funerals,” Fetterman said. “If this individual is convicted, then he should spend the rest of his life in prison, and never have an opportunity to get out.”
The suspect was a career criminal with at least 21 prior arrests before he killed the police officer last month.
Fetterman said he believes in second chances, but not 20.
“If you have those kinds of established records, it doesn’t serve any greater goal to allow people that are offending, offending, offending and allow them to not be held accountable,” Fetterman said.
The senator added that the government has to be “very smart and aggressive on crime.”
Fetterman also opened his views on the Israel-Hamas war, where he remained a steadfast supporter of the Jewish state as national Democrats began leaning closer to the Palestinian terrorists, Hamas.
The Pennsylvania senator blasted Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for calling for elections in the country.
“It’s reasonable if you want to criticize, but to call for something effective like a regime change, I disagree,” Fetterman said. “I didn’t agree because Israel is a democracy, it is our key special ally, and our nation wouldn’t appreciate any kind of foreign input. So why should we do that for Israel?”
Meanwhile, the senator clarified that he remains a loyal Democrat while admitting that Trump has stronger and broader support in Pennsylvania, one of the battleground states.
“It’s going to be very close. Trump is going to be incredibly strong in Pennsylvania.”
