(BLP) – The unelected Democrat Governor of New York Kathy Hochul publicly claimed that the idea a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy does not bear out in reality.
These comments by Hochul against allowing regular civilians to carry a concealed weapon in order to defend themselves came after her state rolled out several new laws banning the practice from a vast amount of commonly accessed public places including restaurants, churches, educational institutions, parks, libraries, public transportation, and more. The new legislation by New York is intended to help skirt a recent SCOTUS ruling that upheld the Second Amendment against the newly-ruled unconstitutional gun laws passed by the state.
“This whole concept that a good guy with a gun will stop the bad guys with a gun, it doesn’t hold up. And the data bears this out, so that theory is over,” Hochul said Wednesday.
“We don’t need guns on our streets. We don’t need people carrying guns in our subways. We don’t need people carrying guns in our schools. We don’t need people carrying in our places of worship. We don’t need them carrying them into bars or restaurants. Because that only makes people less safe,” claimed the unelected governor.
Hochul’s allegation that this “theory is over” does not appear to hold up when one observes what can happen in states that allow citizens the opportunity to defend themselves. Big League Politics reported in July that a 22-year-old armed civilian heroically ended the carnage of a rampaging shooter at a mall in Indiana. Another June report featured a West Virginia woman who used her concealed weapon to disable and kill a crazed man with an AR-15 after he threatened to shoot up a birthday party.
The young man who stopped the shooting in Indiana, 22-year-old Elisjsha Dicken, reportedly had little to no formal training before he committed this act of heroism.
There are other instances of armed civilians saving the day in the past as well. As Breitbart News pointed out, in 2015 an armed Uber driver in Chicago shot a man who allegedly began to open fire on a crowd, ending the attempted killings. Another 2015 report featured a citizen in Philidelphia who shot a man after he had fired upon a woman and child in a barber shop.
Hochul posted a list of targeted areas that the state of New York will not allow civilians to carry firearms in on Wednesday.
Keeping New Yorkers safe is my top priority.

Such wide-ranging bans on civilian carry of firearms beg an important question: If good guys will be prosecuted for so much as stepping outside the door of their house with a firearm, how could one expect them to even have a chance at ‘stopping a bad guy with a gun’ in the first place?
