“Released on their own recognizance” is slang for “they can go anywhere they want.”
This is bad behavior on the part of the judge, and for which he should be impeached by the People he serves. Nevertheless, after massive arrests took place after illegal aliens, many armed with knives and shanks, rushed the border and National Guard troops. Yet, an El Paso judge has freed them all!
New York Post reports:
Texas authorities have arrested 70 additional migrants on rioting charges related to the March 21 incident in which they overran and assaulted National Guard troops in an attempt to rush the border at El Paso, an official told The Post.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is holding more than 200 migrants whom the state wants to arrest and charge, but federal authorities “are not being as cooperative as Border Patrol,” according to the official.
The 70 who have been arrested face charges for misdemeanor rioting, the source said.
…
The migrants involved in the riot tore down border wire erected by the state, knocking down soldiers as they rushed to Gate 36, hoping Border Patrol agents on the other side would take them into custody and allow them into the US.
Shortly before the border rush, soldiers in the area began turning small groups of single adult migrants back toward Mexico.
That’s when they became agitated and decided to rush the guardsmen.
Authorities later confiscated knives and shanks from some of those involved in the riot, according to a National Guard source.
At least one migrant had also attempted to grab a soldier’s firearm during the incident.
Some of the soldiers near Gate 36 that day were transported to a nearby hospital for minor injuries.
“These people were willing to assault military,” the National Guard source told The Post. “They were willing to assault law enforcement. They have complete disregard for our laws.”
Then Judge Humberto Acosta decided that even though they broke the law in crossing the border and attacking our National Guard, he would set them free.
An El Paso judge released migrants allegedly involved in a wild stampede that overwhelmed National Guard troops at the southern border in Texas on Easter Sunday.
Presiding Magistrate Judge Humberto Acosta ruled during a bond hearing that migrants charged with “riot participation” would be set free following the shocking riot along the Rio Grande 10 days prior.
Acosta made this decision because the El Paso District Attorney’s Office was not ready to proceed with detention hearings for each defendant.
Despite footage showing the violent scene with razor wire ripped down and guards knocked over, Acosta ruled that the riot participation cases would be released on their own recognizance.
…
It is uncertain how many migrants were charged with “riot participation,” as Judge Acosta stated that “hundreds of arrestees” had the right to individual detention hearings within 48 hours.
Additionally, the District Attorney’s Office was not ready to proceed with the hearings, prompting Acosta to release the individuals on their own recognizance.
Federal officials were holding more than 200 migrants, but they were not as cooperative as Border Patrol.
Friends, that is treason, plain and simple.
