In July 2023, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned President Biden’s attempt to cancel more than $400 billion in student debt. Biden has since been exploring ways to bypass the ruling. Recently, he announced that over 270,000 individuals enrolled in his income-driven repayment plan (SAVE) will have $7.4 billion in debt canceled. This action brings the total debt relief approved by the Biden-Harris administration to $153 billion for 4.3 million Americans.
Straight Arrow News contributor Star Parker contends that President Biden’s actions amount to an attempt to buy votes for the upcoming November election. This approach, Parker asserts, is cultivating a culture of irresponsibility and undermining public trust in the government.
The driving force behind these actions is politics. Biden is using taxpayer dollars in a blatant attempt to buy the votes of college students and he is opening our border to millions of unvetted migrants in order to import millions of new voters. Biden has directed every federal agency to implement a voter registration campaign among people who receive their benefits. At the same time, Biden is granting legal status to millions of migrants and signing them up for government health and social welfare benefits.
Republicans in Congress are now seeking legislation to ensure that new voters verify that they are U.S. citizens, just as Americans must do in complying with the Real ID program. They’re also calling on states to ensure that non-citizens receiving these benefits have not been wrongly added to voter registration lists.
It is irresponsible to put taxpayer dollars, our nation’s border, and our election system at risk. The American people deserve better and they will soon have an opportunity to make their voices heard.
