An off-duty Chicago police officer was shot dead as he was on the way home from his shift early Sunday morning, another victim of violent crime in the Democrat-controlled city.
Police responded to a ShotSpotter gunshot detection alert on the Southwest Side just before 3 a.m. and found Officer Luis Huesca who had been shot multiple times during an apparent carjacking.
Officer Huesca, who was only two days shy of his 31st birthday, was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. More than 30 gunshots were recorded during the tragic incident, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. It isn’t clear whether the officer engaged in a gunfight with his killer(s).

“There will be sadness, anger and grief as we ask how the life of our fellow brother could be taken in this reprehensible act of violence,” Snelling said in a letter to the department. “Our focus right now is on his family and loved ones who are going through the unimaginable trauma of loss. We are also focused on apprehending whoever is responsible for this.”

“We are deeply mourning the death of Officer Luis M. Huesca of the 5th District/Priority Response Team following an act of unconscionable gun violence in our city. No family or community should ever have to suffer such pain, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said in a statement.”
“I met with Officer Huesca’s mother and uncle this morning and assured them that they have the full support of my administration as they deal with this unspeakable loss. Our city is grieving, and our condolences go out to their entire family as well as Luis’ fellow officers and community,” the top Windy City Democrat added.
“A terrible loss as we cope with the death of Officer Luis M. Huesca, who was just two days shy of his 31st birthday. Thinking of his family and fellow officers as we mourn the passing of a dedicated officer,” Illinois Governor JB Pritzker said in a post to X. “May his memory be a blessing and his service never forgotten.”

“My Office of Community Safety, in collaboration with CPD, is committed to putting every resource available toward apprehending anyone involved in this shooting and bringing them to justice,” Mayor Johnson said. “As the investigation continues, we will provide immediate updates when available.”
“These are senseless, senseless crimes that are taking the lives of our community members, today of one of our officers,” Snelling said. “The Area One detective division is working right now on the scene to try to bring some justice to this family.”
The crime-ridden city is hosting the Democratic National Convention (Democratic National Committee) in August.
