House Speaker Mike Johnson traveled to Palm Beach, Florida Friday and met with former President Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate.
Trump, the presumptive 2024 Republican presidential nominee, and Johnson then held a joint press conference at Mar-a-Lago after their meeting.
The primary focus of the press conference was an announcement by Johnson on legislation he will be introducing to address election integrity.
“Election integrity is tied to the border – the lack of border of security. President Biden has created a catastrophe, and he did it by design,” Johnson warned, noting there have been at least 9 million known encounters at the southern border since Biden took over the Oval Office.
Johnson voiced concern about the National Voter Registration Act, which allows people to sign up to vote when they get a driver’s license, and those who register don’t even have to prove they are a U.S. citizen. They simply check a box.
Johnson said House Republicans will be introducing a bill that will require proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections.
The Speaker said he believes the Biden administration has opened the borders wide for one reason: so they can “turn all these people into voters.”
“Right now, the administration is encouraging illegals to go to their local welfare office to sign up for benefits. Well guess what, when you go to a welfare office, they also ask if you would like to register to vote,” Johnson said.
He noted that if only one out of 100 voted, they would cast potentially hundreds of thousands of votes… and it could even affect the presidential election.
Johnson said the legislation they are introducing will also require states to remove non-citizens from their existing voter roles, and will provide access to data bases from DHS and the Social Security administration, to help the states comply with this.
He pointed out that when the matter comes up for a vote, Democrats will have to go on record as to whether they believe only American citizens should be allowed to vote in U.S. elections.
After Johnson concluded his remarks, Trump took questions from the press.
Trump was first asked about the current conflict between Speaker Johnson and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. He confirmed his support for both, saying Johnson is doing a good job.
“He’s doing about as good as you’re going to do, and I’m sure that Marjorie understands that… I stand with the speaker. We’ve had a very good relationship,” Trump said.
Another reporter asked Trump if he supports a Ukrainian aide bill? Trump responded, “We’re looking at it right now. We’re thinking about making it in the form of a loan instead of a gift.”
Trump said Europe “has to step up and they have to give money, they have to equalize it. I’m very upset about it, because they’re more affected by it than we are.”
He emphasized that the invasion of Ukraine would have never happened if he were president, and the October 7 attack on Israel would have never happened.
Another reporter was heard angrily yelling at Trump with two questions about abortion, and he confirmed again that the Supreme Court was right to turn the matter back to the individual states. He also condemned Democrats for their support of abortion, right up to the moment of birth.
One question after another, Trump responded to each one, including Joe Biden, the FISA bill, and much more.
“I’m not a big fan of FISA.. You know they spied on my campaign,” Trump said.
He was also asked if he would testify at the upcoming “hush money” trial, and he confirmed that he will, saying, “I’m testifying. I’ll tell the truth. I mean, all I can do is tell the truth. And the truth is, that there’s no case.”

“But I do not support Speaker Johnson. He funded the DOJ, FBI, and today voted against warrant requirements and FOR FISA!!”
