Former President Donald Trump’s attorneys have scored a number of legal victories in recent weeks as they continue to work overtime to protect their client.
According to The Epoch Times, the former president’s lawyers recently attempted to subpoena records of “evidence related to NBC Universal’s ‘Stormy’ documentary for his upcoming trial.”
The trial is a result of the charges brought against the former president by DA Alvin Bragg, who alleges Trump paid Stormy Daniels “hush money” through his former “fixer,” Michael Cohen.
His attorneys filed a motion to subpoena all the materials related to the documentary on March 11.
In turn, about a week later, NBC filed a motion to quash the subpoena, which New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan agreed to do last week.
The outlet noted:
The documentary features Stephanie Gregory Clifford, better known by her stage name Stormy Daniels, who alleged an affair with President Trump and is a key witness in the case. Prosecutors allege the charges against President Trump are tied to a payment scheme to influence the 2016 elections, and included an alleged bribe to Ms. Clifford.
Trump’s lawyers requested literally everything related to the documentary, including financial records that would show any compensation to Daniels.
LAWFARE: Anti-Trump judges have granted prosecutors unrestricted access to his documents and communications, including those protected by attorney-client privilege. However, Judge Merchan denied Trump’s subpoena NBC for its communications with Stormy.https://t.co/rPMSwSVlzs

Judge Merchan found the defense’s subpoena “too broad” and shot it down.
“In the instant matter, the Defendant seeks ‘all’ documents, including but not limited to vague and overbroad requests for ’the trial in People v. Trump,'” the judge’s order read.
Social media users reacted to the judge’s ruling, with many disagreeing with the order to quash the subpoena.
“Hopefully, Merchan will recuse or be recused after appeal,” one X user wrote. Another X user wrote, “I’m getting pretty sick of these activist judges.”
Trump’s lawyers argued that the documentary was purposely set to coincide with the upcoming trial, which they said “would prejudice President Trump while maximizing the network and a key witness’s financial interests.”
Only time will tell if Trump’s lawyers manage to ultimately obtain the evidence.
