House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) caused quite a stir when he publicly commended CNN host Jake Tapper for his impartiality after their interview on Wednesday. In his appearance on CNN, Johnson emphasized his foreign aid package, which has received the endorsement of President Joe Biden. This package aims to allocate a substantial amount of American taxpayer aid to Ukraine. It is worth noting that Johnson’s stance on this issue has evolved, as he had previously opposed such funding. However, following a reversal in March, he has now prioritized supporting Ukraine.
During the interview, Johnson connected with Tapper remotely from outside the House floor in the Capitol, with a small group of reporters in attendance. In the course of their conversation, Johnson mentioned his longstanding acquaintance with Tapper, who is known for his left-leaning views and tendency to propagate false claims.
“You’re always fair,” a mic’d up Johnson told Tapper, who has a history of completely false attacks on Republicans.
The outlet added: “Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is threatening to oust Johnson from the speakership in a move seeming to gather steam. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) publicly backed Greene Tuesday.”
