With re-election on the line, the ongoing investigation into the Biden family’s alleged influence peddling spotlighted another relative’s China ties — and what the then-vice president had publicly acknowledged.
While corporate media turned their focus to the criminal trial of former President Donald Trump in New York, the same scrutiny was hardly evident for rival President Joe Biden who “formally REFUSED” an invitation to testify to the House Oversight Committee Monday.
The decision to avoid scrutiny amid the ongoing probe surrounding Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings came as a former business associate to the scandal-ridden first son confirmed to Fox News Digital that the president’s niece, Casey Owens, was “definitely a resource.”
Previously, email correspondence with Owens, daughter to Biden’s sister, Valerie Biden Owens, had chronicled exchanges with Hunter while she served as a special assistant for the U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue at the Treasury Department.
As Fox News pointed out, emails sent from Owens to then-Vice President Joe Biden’s alias account “Auks” in May 2011 featured a shoutout to his niece while touting a “rising China.”
“And your remarks. That was really something else, Uncle Joe. What a way to exit the Treasury,” the outlet reported her writing to Biden. “I’m almost embarrassed by how deeply today has impacted me. I’m simply happy to be close to you, and I just wanted to say thank you for including me.”
During the speech at an event that included then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and then-Treasure Secretary Tim Geithner, Biden had said, “We cannot claim the same number of Americans in China, but our 100,000 Strong Initiative will dramatically increase the number of young Americans living and studying in China.”
“As a matter of fact, my niece who — excuse me, as we say in the Senate, a point of personal privilege — who graduated from Harvard not too long ago, works for Secretary Geithner, she did exactly what we hope another 100,000 will do: She studied Chinese and went and lived in China and is now devoted to making sure the relationship gets better and better and better,” read a transcript of the speech included in the email chain.
“As a young member of a Foreign Relations Committee, I wrote and I said and I believed then what I believe now: That a rising China is a positive, positive development, not only for China but for American and the world writ large,” added Biden as he spoke to then-President Barack Obama’s goal to send 100,000 American students to China as ambassadors of the United States.
Owens’ email contact with Hunter Biden and his then-business partner Eric Schwerin about an upcoming conference held by China Investment Corporation had previously noted a message sent days after a meeting between Hunter and a Chinese investor.
“FYI on recent CIC investment conference at a resort in Sanya, on Hainan Island, over the weekend of March 27-28,” wrote Owens with text from an AsianInvestor.com article that read in part, “The conference has been interpreted by the media as a ‘coming out’ party for the CIC, capping a successful 2009 in which it recorded a net 17% return on its international investments.”

Hunter, the then-chairman of Rosemont Seneca, was said to have traveled with Boston-based investment advisory firm Thornton Group’s chairman, James Bulger, days earlier to meet with CIC Chief Investment Officer Gao Xiqing and others “aiming to further deepen mutual understanding and explore the possibility of commercial cooperation and opportunity.”
Fox News also detailed how Hunter had been in communications with his Uncle John “Jack” Owens, Casey’s father, Bulger and Taiwanese-American businessman Michael Lin from the State Legislative Leaders Foundation, to help the relative secure a business license in 2014.
“Is there a way we can help him expedite this?” Hunter had asked. “Time is of the essence here.”
On Monday, the House Oversight Committee’s GOP majority released a statement that noted Biden “formally REFUSED our invitation to testify in public about his knowledge of any participation in his family’s business schemes.”
“It appears,” the statement continued, “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree in the Biden family. Like his son, Hunter Biden, President Biden is refusing to testify in public about the Bidens’ corrupt influence peddling. This comes as no surprise since President Biden continues to lie about his relationships with his son’s business partners, even denying they exist when his son said under oath during a deposition that they did.”

“It is unfortunate President Biden is unwilling to answer questions before the American people and refuses to answer the very simple, straightforward questions we included in the invitation. Why is it so difficult for the White House to answer those questions?” the committee wondered. “The American people deserve transparency from President Biden, not more lies.”
