It’s clear that part of the marketing for Beyonce’s new country album is getting famous people to praise it and/or sh*t on everything else in country music. By “part of,” I mean all of it. If an album stands on its own, you don’t need to ask Kamala Harris and Michelle Obama to tweet about how amazing and transcending your pop songs are. And then there is The View’s Joy Behar, who uses the incident as an excuse to fire shots at Dolly Parton.
The universally beloved Dolly Parton. Because to the Left, in order to be “for everyone” you need to alienate anyone who already enjoys something.
Beyonce’s dropped a cover of Dolly’s 1973 hit “Jolene.” Guess which one the shrill Behar likes better? Here’s a hint: it has nothing to do with the song, as Joy declared on The View’s podcast. Yes, The View has a podcast. No, I don’t know why.
I like the subject of Beyoncé taking over the lyrics. I just think that the original thing with Dolly Parton is so anti-feminist, worrying about some good-looking woman taking your man. If it’s so easy to take your man, then take him! Beyoncé says, ‘If you take my man, you’re gonna be in a lot of trouble,’ and I say, ‘Go ahead, take my man, take him!
But that’s not enough! Because Joy wants you to remember when she lectured Dolly Parton on feminism.
I’m the person on the show who made Dolly Parton admit she was a feminist. I said to her, ‘Are you a feminist?’ and she said, ‘I don’t think so.’ And I said, ‘Do you think a woman should make as much as a man? Then you’re a feminist.’ She’s the best, but I got her to admit that. She’s a country star, and they don’t like to admit that.
“They” don’t like to admit that. Meaning the over half of American who loves country music and thinks Joy’s an idiot. Again, in order to be “for everyone” you need to alienate anyone who slightly disagrees with you.
No, “thinking a woman should make as much as a man” doesn’t make you a feminist. It makes you a low-information lefty who doesn’t know how to math. What makes you a feminist is hating men and other women who have a slightly different opinion than you AND agreeing with every other worldview that progressives have that week. That’s why TERFs like JK Rowling get kicked out of the club.
We’re talking about a woman who, in the 70s, told ELVIS F’N PRESELY he couldn’t record one of her songs because she knew signing over the publishing rights was a bad business decision. Dolly Parton didn’t need to call herself a hashtag feminist, a girl boss, or a slay queen. She just stood on business before that was an expression.
Dolly is too universally beloved for leftists like Joy Behar’s liking and has a massive platform that is not being used to cram the progressive agenda down people’s throats. Not that the Left and the media (but I repeat myself) haven’t tried. They couldn’t get her to bash Donald Trump. They couldn’t get her to cancel Kid Rock. However, they did try to cancel her when she said hard work is a good thing.
Beyonce’s “country album” could have been her farting on a snare drum (name that movie), and there would still be an over-the-top marketing push about it transcending the farting on a snare drum industry. And if you don’t like the “art,” you’re guilty of being an -ist full of -isms. I’m sure a -phobia or two as well.
