Missouri Democratic Rep. Cori Bush is known for her membership in a group of far-left lawmakers known as the “Squad.”
Yet as Fox News pointed out late last week, Bush may be facing the prospect of removal from Capitol Hill.
Bush faces DOJ investigation over large security payments to her husband
The network outlined “an avalanche of problems” that appear to have made Bush the Squad’s “most vulnerable” member this year.
Those troubles include a Department of Justice (DOJ) investigation into six-figure security payments made by Bush’s campaign to her husband, Cortney Merritts.
Financial disclosures show that her campaign spent $770,000 on private security services with Merritts receiving $120,000 since February of 2022 despite him not having a private security license.
Fox News noted that the information resulted in a pair of complaints filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), one of which has been resolved in the congresswoman’s favor while the other is still pending.
Polling data shows Bush trailing far behind primary challenger
Bush’s campaign provided a statement to Fox News which said it “can’t comment on the ongoing federal investigation.”
However, it insisted that Bush ” is fully cooperating with the DOJ” and that “her campaign’s security services are in accordance with all applicable laws and have never been paid for using federal taxpayer funds.”
“The Office of Congressional Ethics unanimously cleared Congresswoman Bush back in September, and she fully expects to be cleared again when the DOJ concludes its investigation,” the statement went on to conclude.
In addition to her legal concerns, Bush is also facing an uphill primary battle against former prosecuting attorney Wesley Bell, who a recent poll showed as being 22 points ahead.
That comes even as Bush’s most recent filings show that as of January her campaign had just $215,000 in the bank compared with $408,000 for Bell’s campaign.
American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) trying to unseat Bush
Meanwhile, Bush has also been targeted by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) over her pro-Palestinian stance.

According to the Washington Examiner, AIPAC has similarly set its sights on fellow Squad members like New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar, and Michigan Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib.
