So, I didn’t know Jim Breuer had his own podcast. I’m not surprised–everyone has a podcast these days. Many of them are terrible, but after getting a taste of Breuer’s podcast “Breuniverse,” I think it’s safe to say, this might be one worth adding to your regular playlist.
Now, most of you probably hear Breuer’s name and immediately think of a bit. He’s had quite a few good ones recently. And who can forget Half Baked? But this wasn’t a bit.
This was Breuer in a more serious tone, telling his audience about the potential challenge to his faith after his wife was diagnosed with cancer, originally back in 2012 and again in 2015. And his message about faith, his relationship with God, and the plea to his audience to step back, to disconnect from the constant political back and forth, sloganeering, and fighting and to look around to see everything they’re blessed with is exactly what everyone, regardless of political persuasion, needs to hear right now.

Breuer explains that, following his wife’s diagnosis, he went to speak to a friend, and his friend asked him if he was mad at God for what was going on, what was going to happen. And Breuer explained, “I said, ‘To be dead honest with you, not at all. […] If anything, I’m not mad at what I will not have. I’m not mad [at] what’s being taken away. I’m not made about what I’m not gonna have anymore, but I am so damn blessed for what I had, and what I still have.'”
He continues by saying that people have a choice to make when they’re struggling. “You can either turn your back and be mad or you can look at it as, ‘Wow! I didn’t realize how beautiful life is and was when it’s right in front of you.'”
Breuer turns his focus to the audience, telling people that they should understand that they’re being manipulated by the politics of the day to distract them from the beauty around them and the relationship with God that they could have.
“I don’t have politics. That’s the world trying to divide and conquer and take your faith away. We’re all obsessed [with] deep life issues right now. […] Stop it. You’re being controlled.”
But he’s hopeful.
“No college, no education, can ever fill your cup with such beauty, with such grace […] Please, go out and enjoy life. […] This really has to do, in my opinion, a deeper spirituality, God the Lord, however you want to put it. I hope you find it, I hope you tap into it. It’ll help you spread light to so many others–so many others.”
Jim Breuer’s story is beautiful. His message to us all is perfectly timed, and it should be shared far and wide. Thank you, Jim, for sharing.
