Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said Monday on X that he had “respectfully” declined to be former President Donald Trump’s vice president when he was asked by “emissaries” to take the job.
Kennedy did not name the person or people who asked him to join the Trump ticket.
He posted on X, “President Trump calls me an ultra-left radical. I’m soooo liberal that his emissaries asked me to be his VP. I respectfully declined the offer.”
“I am against President Trump, and President Biden can’t win,” Kennedy said. “Judging by his new website, it looks like President Trump knows who actually can beat him.”
The claims
President Trump calls me an ultra-left radical. I’m soooo liberal that his emissaries asked me to be his VP. I respectfully declined the offer.
I am against President Trump, and President Biden can’t win.

The latest polling shows that Kennedy hurts Biden slightly more than Trump with his candidacy, but experts caution those numbers could change.
With Kennedy in the race, DailyMail.com and JL Partners found that Trump has a four-point edge over Biden, 43-39%.
But IPSOS President Cliff Young told the outlet that there are a lot of disaffected suburban female voters out there who might swing the tide Biden’s way by voting for Kennedy out of a dislike for Trump and anger over the Supreme Court Dobbs decision to allow states to restrict or ban abortion.
“Disaffected suburban” voters
He described the typical Kennedy supporter as a “disaffected suburban moderate Republican that really didn’t like Dobbs, probably doesn’t like Donald Trump’s record with women, that doesn’t know where to go.”
“He helps Biden more than Trump,” Young insisted.
It doesn’t make sense to put Kennedy on Trump’s ticket given that Kennedy supports the Green New Deal, gun control, and other generally liberal causes.
Trump campaign co-manager Chris LaCivita reposted an X post from January saying Kennedy is “a leftie loonie that would never be approached to be on the ticket..sorry!”
Then again, as Vice President Kennedy would have very little power to sway policy and could bring his “disaffected” voters into the Trump fold for good.
It’s not going to happen, but wouldn’t it be interesting if it did?
