Election integrity became a top issue for Americans after the controversy surrounding the 2020 Presidential election.
Ron DeSantis went on the offensive to make sure what happened across the country in 2020 never happens in Florida.
And Ron DeSantis’ election police force just arrested a man for committing fraud on behalf of a pro-abortion group.
After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, some Republican-led states immediately passed pro-life legislation to protect innocent babies in the womb.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a ban on abortions after six weeks into law.
Of course, the Left is spending millions of dollars to make abortion the law of the land in states that allow for ballot initiatives.
In Florida, the pro-abortion group “Floridians Protecting Freedom” collected enough signatures for a November ballot initiative that would codify abortion on demand into state law.
“Yes on 4, Floridians Protecting Freedom (FPF) is a statewide campaign of allied organizations and concerned citizens working together to protect Floridians’ access to abortion as reproductive health care and defend the right to bodily autonomy,” the group’s website reads. “FPF recognizes that all Floridians deserve the freedom to make personal medical decisions, including about abortion, free of government intrusion.”
The group passed the threshold in January to place the initiative on the ballot after officials verified more than 911,000 legitimate signatures.
However, apparently there were a few shenanigans pulled by some of their paid signature gatherers.
And Florida’s Office of Election Crimes and Security just arrested a man for submitting more than 30 fraudulent signatures for Floridians Protecting Freedom in Sarasota County.
37-year-old Salazar was arrested on 12 charges of criminal use of personal identification information and released on a $5,000 bond.
Ron DeSantis made it part of his mission to strengthen election integrity in Florida following the controversial 2020 Presidential race.
In early 2021, DeSantis signed a bill that banned ballot harvesting in Florida.
Ballot harvesting is a process that allows operatives to collect tens of thousands of ballots and drop them off at locations around the district, making it ripe for fraud and abuse.
The law also banned the mass mailing of unsolicited ballots to voters, meaning Floridians have to request an absentee ballot if they want to vote that way.
“We’re also prohibiting mass mailing of balloting,” DeSantis said at the time. “We’ve had absentee voting in Florida for a long time. You request the ballot. You get it. And you mail it in. But to just indiscriminately send them out is not a recipe for success.”
DeSantis also enhanced voter ID protections at the ballot box.
In 2022, DeSantis signed a bill setting up the Office of Election Crimes and Security within the Department of State.
Before then, there was not a dedicated office to investigate election crimes in Florida.
And last year, 2023, the office received and began investigations on 1,300 election complaints.
The new division, DeSantis created arresting Salazar over petition signatures, only shows that the Governor was serious about election integrity in Florida.
