Former President Trump ended months of speculation by affirming his stance on abortion, advocating for state autonomy on the issue with exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother.
In a video shared on social media, Trump expressed his support for in vitro fertilization (IVF) and emphasized states’ rights in determining abortion laws. He stated, “The states will determine…whatever they decide must be the law…it is all about the will of the people.”

During a campaign stop in Michigan last week, Trump hinted at an impending announcement, triggered by inquiries about Florida’s six-week abortion ban set to take effect, Fox reports.
Trump reiterated his pride in his role in overturning Roe v. Wade, emphasizing, “The Republican Party should always be on the side of the miracle of life.”
However, Trump’s position drew criticism from some pro-life groups. Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life, expressed disappointment, asserting that relinquishing the issue to states cedes the national debate to Democrats and undermines states’ rights.

Former Vice President Mike Pence, Trump’s two-time running mate, denounced the shift, labeling it a “slap in the face” to pro-life supporters.
The controversial issue of abortion has resurfaced in political discourse since the Supreme Court’s decision to return jurisdiction to the states. Republican-led states have implemented various abortion restrictions, prompting Democrats to intensify their focus on the matter.
Despite Trump’s assertion of his pro-life stance, his refusal to specify when during pregnancy he would support a ban has sparked debate. Trump previously hinted at a 15-week ban but emphasized that the issue should remain a state matter.

The polarization surrounding abortion underscores its complexity, with polling indicating shifting attitudes. A recent Fox News poll showed declining support for a 15-week ban and revealed a majority of voters favoring a national law guaranteeing access to legal abortion.
President Biden criticized Trump’s stance, attributing the potential end of Roe v. Wade to the former president and warning of electoral consequences for those involved in overturning the landmark ruling.
