A shooting in the South Side of Chicago left ten people injured, including three children, and one girl dead, police said.
Chicago Police Department Deputy Chief Don Jerome said late Saturday evening that eight people – five adults and three children – were shot, and one of the children succumbed to her injuries.
The total number of people shot was later updated to 11, per Chicago’s ABC and CBS affiliates.
Police responded to a ShotSpotter alert of 18 rounds fired around 9:20 p.m. at a family gathering in the South Side, officials said.While police have not named the girl who passed away, she has been identified as being Hispanic and 7 or 8 years old.A 1-year-old Hispanic boy and an 8-year-old Hispanic boy are both in critical condition after being shot multiple times, Jerome also said.A 9-year-old boy was later identified as a shooting victim.
