Somerville, MA – Somerville Police Department (SPD) Officer Randy Isaacs died in the line of duty on June 19.
The 41-year-old officer was out on patrol when he suffered a possible cardiac event in his patrol car and passed away, the Boston Globe reported.
Officer Isaacs’ exact cause of death was not immediately released.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of active duty Officer, Randy Isaacs,” the SPD said in a press release on June 21. “Officer Isaacs was an integral member of the Somerville Police Department, bringing laughter to everyone he interacted with.”
In addition to his 15 years of service to the SPD, Officer Isaacs was also a 24-year veteran of the Army National Guard.
“He leaves his fellow soldiers as a Master Sergeant of the 26th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade,” the police department said. “Officer Isaacs served multiple tours to including deployments in Kosovo and Afghanistan.”
Officer Isaacs, who was born in Content York Town, Jamaica, graduated from Somerville High School in 1998, according to his obituary.
He was an alumnus of the University of Massachusetts in Boston.
Officer Isaacs’ family said he unexpectedly passed away “while on the job protecting the city he loved,” according to his obituary.
He leaves behind his parents, grandmother, siblings, nieces, nephews, and many friends and extended family members.
“Officer Isaacs is a true American Hero, who dedicated his life to service,” the SPD said. “Officer Isaacs was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. His bright personality has left a deep impact on all that knew him.”
The longtime officer will be laid to rest on July 2, according to his obituary.
