The Texas-led effort to defend American sovereignty included protecting illegal aliens from each other as a midwestern National Guardsman reportedly opened fire on a stabbing suspect.
Despite immense pushback from President Joe Biden’s administration, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R) Operation Lone Star has garnered support from states across the country to do what the federal government has refused to do at the southern border.
On Sunday, the need for vigilance and action was emphasized when a U.S. Border Patrol alert warned of “increased violence” and detailed how an Indiana National Guardsman had shot at an illegal alien who was attacking two others.
NewsNation correspondent Ali Bradley shared the account from the Yselta Station of the El Paso Sector that briefed, “On April 14, 2024, at approximately 1310 hours, A BPA was notified by Army Personnel that a migrant was seen stabbing another migrant south of the C-wire, by the river’s edge, around light pole 542.”

Border Patrol further indicated that the alien who’d reportedly been shot “subsequently went back south to Mexico” and the two individuals who had been stabbed had “sustained non-life threatening injuries” that were also described as “superficial wounds.”
After joining other Republican governors in supporting Abbott, Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb had moved to deploy guardsmen to aid Operation Lone Star with the late March deployment of Task Force Indiana.
At the departure ceremony for the 50 members selected out of over 300 volunteers, Holcomb asserted that “Hoosiers are proving once again: if the federal government at large can’t get their act together on the border, we will.”
Two days before the incident, the Texas Military highlighted the aid from Indiana and recognized how the state’s National Guard soldiers were “helping defend Texas and the Nation by conducting patrols to prevent, deter and interdict transnational criminal activity, illegal immigrations and human trafficking between ports of entry for #OperationLoneStar.”
Similarly, on the day of the reported shooting, the Texas Military had expressed, “Texas National Guard Soldiers and supporting states’ Soldiers utilize all available tools to hold the line defending Texas and the Nation as part of #OperationLoneStar.”

In a subsequent update to her report, Bradley went on to add, “In a statement @NationalGuardIN says, ‘The Indiana National Guard is aware of the incident that happened Sunday, April 14. We support and care for our soldiers and airmen who are supporting Operation Lone Star…’ We have emails out to @TXMilitary and @GovAbbott but have not yet heard back.”

The latest display of violence that had Border Patrol agents reminded of the importance of wearing body armor came weeks after U.S Customs and Border Protection’s elite Border Patrol Tactical unit (BORTAC) had reportedly “shot & killed a bandit who was seen robbing illegal immigrants in a remote area of San Diego sector…” following reports of “bandit activity.”
